First Madrid said it no longer wanted stick-thin models "striking a pose" on its catwalks but now the city has gone one step further: clothes stores have been told that their shop-window dummies, or mannequins, need to fatten up.
The skinny versions must be withdrawn, says the government, and replaced by plastic models with a rounder, more realistic and feminine figure. And these female shoppers out on the streets of Madrid seem to support the idea:

The model's view
A lot of the fashion industry won't take on plus size models. That has been hard for me. There are definitely avenues that are closed off to full figured women.

Concern about anorexic models creating a false and unattainable image for ordinary people to try to follow is nothing new. But with these new rules and something of a backlash in parts of the fashion industry, are we seeing a new trend towards the fuller figure?
